AHA BLS INFORMATION
Basic Life Support (BLS)
The AHA’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).
Basic Life Support (BLS) Course Options
Basic Life Support (BLS) is available in two different training methods – blended learning and classroom training. All BLS course options teach the same AHA science-based skills and result in the same AHA BLS Course Completion Card.
Is AHA BLS the right course for me?
BLS is geared towards prehospital providers, like EMTs, paramedics, fire fighters, and in-facility hospital providers. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a course completion card, valid for two years. Please contact your employer to ensure that you are selecting the correct course.
What does this course teach?
After successfully completing this course, students should be able to
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
- The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
- Important early use of an AED
- Effective ventilations using a barrier device
- Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
- Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
HOW MANY CEUS FOR BLS DO I GET?
The American Heart Association BLS courses provide CEU/CME credits for EMTs, AEMTs, paramedics, respiratory therapists, nurses, nurse anesthetists, physician assistants, physicians, dentists, and pharmacists. The BLS certification courses are approved for up to 4.0 CEUs/CMEs, and recertification courses are approved for up to 2.50 CEUs/CMEs.

FORMAT:
The BLS Instructor-led course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.
Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session. HeartCode BLS Online is the online portion of BLS blended learning that will prepare students for hands-on practice and testing of BLS skills.
All-Online BLS Courses are Instructor-led and presented by zoom. Each BLS Online Course has been created to meet AHA Guidelines, as well as conducting the courses in equivalency to Classroom BLS and HeartCode BLS Skills Sessions.

- Video-based course with real world scenarios that teaches basic life support skills for application in both in-facility and pre-hospital settings.
- The learner has a choice of completing a pre-hospital or in-hospital contextualized track.

- The new all online BLS Certification, Renewal & Skills utilizes 2 HD camera’s, which allows students to view proper hands-on techniques as well as full body lecturing and demonstrations.
- Student’s are able to been seen, heard and corrected via their device of choice by other students and the Instructor.
- AHA Streaming Videos, Posters, Skills Check Materials are provided to students or shown clearly online.
- Student’s are required to participate with their own hands-on equipment purchased or rented from the store.
